Native American Navajo Germantown Double Saddle Blanket Circa 1890 with beautiful vibrant colors and nice design that features a very complex border and Spider Women type crosses. This Navajo weaving is in excellent condition. At the end of the transitional times, weavings started to turn into pound blankets where the traders paid the Navajos by the pound. So, some really thick, but not very good quality rugs and blankets were made. Then Navajo people started to send their wool back East to Germantown, Pennsylvania where it was commercially processed into a fine diameter wool. It is this process that helped bring Navajo weavings back to a higher quality. This weaving is an excellent example of this high quality.
